I'm Back At It!

Hi Becca!

Thanks for all the drawings and photos of you trip! I love them all!!!! I'm so jealous! Sorry I haven't been posting for a while - I've been busy with other things, but am back at it again. I will post more drawing in a day or two. I have a (secret) art related project I'm working on right now which I need to focus on. I will tell you about it in a couple of weeks.

There have been a couple fun art-related events I've been involved with in the last couple of weeks. The first one is 'Fish Gone Wild.' The Spicer Beautification Committee is having 20 artist decorate and paint fish to set out in Spicer next summer. My name was drawn to paint a fish. It should be fun. I am going to change the shape of the fish and do something funky to it. Here is a picture:

They had a kick-off celebration to hand out the fish. They also had minnows swimming in glass vases and fish shaped cookies. You can check out more photos from this event at the new Willmar Area Arts Blog.

I went to Marshall on a day trip with some of the other WAAC board members. We checked their gallery and visited with the Marshall Art Center board members. We had a fun day. Here are some pictures. You can see more pictures from that event at our blog too.

We also visited Greta at the SMAHC office.

Minneapolis Institute of Arts

Hi Becca, David and I went to the Foot in the Door 4 reception last night. It was fun to see all the artwork. It was easier then I thought it would be to find our work. We went early before a lot of people got there. Kim, Hannah and Emily went later and said that it took them a half hour to find a parking place and they had to stand in line for 20 minutes to get in. She said the people watching was good - like looking at artwork! Here are some pictures I took:

I watched two travel shows on England today while I was exercising. It made the shows more interesting and fun to watch because you are over there right now. Your mom was telling me that you are going to Italy and a couple other countries. I am so jealous!!!

Minneapolis Institute of Arts

Hi, I took our artwork to the Minneapolis Institute of Arts on Saturday. There were a lot of people in a line that wound back and forth and back and forth. I thought I would have to stand in line for hours, but it only took an hour. The line moved along well the entire time. I visited with the lady ahead of me in line - she is a psychologist. Her background is in art and she has done art therapy. She said she has to use it just as a tool in her practice because in Minnesota they don't have insurance that covers art therapy counseling. She said that you should check that out.

Thought these photos that I took out of my porch windows this morning might make you homesick! The kids are off school today for a snow day.

Fried Eggs for Breakfast

Hi Becca - I am taking our art down to the cities tomorrow. The weather isn't the greatest today. Your mom has to work and won't be able to go with, but David is going with me - he also has a visit to do. I am also taking work down for Kim and Laural.

Here is David's and my breakfast - had to draw it from memory since we had already eaten when I decided to draw this morning.

Fireplace

This is our new fireplace. I love it! We spend all our at-home time by it.

I am going to start working on summer drawings and paintings so I can get them into galleries.

I was at Carabou Coffee today and did this quick sketch on a napkin. Why don't I bring along my sketch journal???

One of my goals is to illustrate children's books too! I love seeing your photos too! Thanks for sharing them.

Bananas

Hi Becca. Your mom brought over your painting of Michelle last night. I will be taking it to Minneapolis Institute of Arts on Friday. I still don't know what I'm going to take up there yet. I may redo (paint) one of my animal drawings - possibly the zebra (?)

Butterfly

It's snowing today, so I decided to do a butterfly. It's supposed to get up into the teens this week. My aunt was here this past week and she is so looking forward to spring - it got me in the mood too.

Hi Becca! Loving seeing all your drawings! My Aunt Esther is staying with us this week so I am busy running, etc., so I won't have as many drawings on this week but will catch up next week. Here is a picture of a drawing that I am in the process of painting for Melvin's Art and Wine Event this weekend. We are having fog with frosty trees here today - love it - it's so pretty! I have to run to St. Cloud to get mat board today and hope to take some pictures.

Peacock

I was asked to paint a peacock watercolor, so I am drawing some of them before choosing which one to paint. I am going to try to get one painted for this weekend's show. Here is my first peacock.

Becca, I love seeing your drawings - your mom said you have some photos of London - if you have time(!?) put some on here. I will take your painting to 'Foot in the Door 4' at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts the beginning of February. Will take pictures for you too.
